Hotel Castro is uniquely located within the historic settlement of the medieval Castle (Castro), at the highest point of Chora Folegandros, offering breathtaking views over the Aegean Sea and an authentic connection to the island’s past. The Castle once served as the main defensive settlement, protecting the local population from pirate raids.
Folegandros is a small, unspoiled island in the Southern Cyclades, close to Santorini, Ios and Sikinos. Covering an area of 32 sq. km, it is known for its traditional character, peaceful atmosphere and beautiful accessible beaches.
The island’s three settlements — Chora, Ano Meria and Karavostasi — are connected by a paved road of less than 10 km. From the port, access to Hotel Castro is quick and easy, while all beaches and points of interest are within short distance.
Despite the tourist development, Folegandros did not loose its character and originality.
Hotel Castro is the ancestral home of the Danassi family and has remained in their ownership for five generations. The property is an integral part of the northern side of the medieval Castle (Castro) and is built on multiple levels, following the natural morphology of the terrain.
The hotel’s northern side is perched dramatically on a cliff rising 130 meters above sea level, offering uninterrupted views over the Aegean Sea. To the south, the property enjoys a panoramic view of Chora Folegandros, the island’s main town. Ground-floor rooms feature private porches with direct access to the narrow stone-paved road of the Castro settlement, enhancing the authentic medieval character of the experience.
